As for The Manchurian Candidate, I see your point, though obviously I felt the borrow was redeemed by the fact that none of its plot mechanics ended up being true in the end. It only appeared as if a Manchurian Candidate scenario was unfolding. But I do admit a certain tendency on my part to languish in movie parodies, and on both my and Doc's part to call a spade a spade when dealing with pop culture and cartoon iconography (Triana calling Hank on looking like Fred from Scooby Doo, Race Bannon actually showing up, and, as you mentioned, the Impossibles dressing up as the Fantastic Four)--kind of our way of saying "yeah, we know, too...we're not trying to pull a fast one on you." I suppose I should have said "I was attempting a mini-treatise on heroism. This episode, like most others, started out as one thing and ended up as another. And it was still many other tghins along the way of its week-and-a-half, fifteen-pages-too-long journey. There is one "cursed" episode every season, and this one was it, during just about every part of production. I actually had a mini-meltdown when we were cutting the animatic and shut the production down for a week so I could take the time to edit it down properly to something I wasn't embarrassed about. It's always good to try something different, and even admirable to fail at the attempt, but it's a bad idea to try it nine episodes into the season, exhausted, with a tight deadline. In the end, having watched my Tivo'ed version of it just this afternoon, I don't think it sucks. I don't think any of our episodes suck. But it's definitely one of the weakest. And yet, there are some small character moments--with Lincoln, the boys, Doc, Jonas Jr., Hauser, The President--that I'm quite proud of and hope will receive their due with subsequent viewings.
