I cannot believe how under reported the damage is. In Pittsburgh, PA the newspaper stated there was minor damage - this when we sit on the banks of 3 rivers and know better. Kenny Chesney contacting Anderson Cooper of CNN was the first indepth report, anywhere.

There is thoughtful acquisition of the news, and then there is the sort of mindless-mass media version that is not so thoughtful. It's absolutely true that TV did a terrible job. But if you listened to National Public Radio, the information was there. There were stories and interviews on both the major newscasts, interviews on the national talk shows and respectable coverage on the hourly newscasts. Yep, there's blame to go around for most folks not knowing about the problems, but those folks are partly to blame for depending on McNews.
