In reference to Newt Gingrinchâ??s coenmmt, declaring that the purpose of the debate was so that the Republicans could display a united front in attacking Obama was nonsense.O.K., we are already aware all the participants are running against Obama as President because they do not agree with his administrationâ??s policies. They are expected to discuss their concerns about President Obamaâ??s policies. Each of them has discussed how they donâ??t agree with his policies on raising taxes on corporations and millionaires. They have all expressed their negative opinion about his handling, or lack of handling, of the debt crisis. Most of all, each of them has expressed his or her disagreement regarding his healthcare and other social policies, and his handling of the economy. The problem is, the purpose of the debate was to distinguish who will be the best single Republican Presidential nominee among the Republican candidates. How can they do that displaying a united front? Only one of them can be chosen at the Republican convention. Only one of them can face President Obama in November, 2012. How can the public make that distinction when they are only discussing their similarities about why President Obama should not be re-elected. Regardless of the amount of criticism he receives from them, he is already the Democratic Presidential nominee, so he is already in the Presidential Race.I want to know from each of the eight Republican Presidential candidates , why should one of them be chosen from among the others? What makes one candidateâ??s economic policies more effective than Rick Perryâ??s Mitt Romneyâ??s, or Michelle Bachmanâ??s? Maybe as conservatives they do agree on a lot of the same conservative fundementals such as cutting medicare and medicaid spending or reducing taxes and the government debt. However, the public can only choose one of them. In order for the public to make an informed decision, Republican candidates must distinguish themselves from each other.Former Speaker Gingrinch seems to be deciding what questions the media can and can not ask. He has decided topics such as increasing taxes and mandated healthcare are off limits. However, most Republican candidates have signed pledges not to raise taxes and made statements that if elected, they will attempt to repeal President Obamaâ??s healthcare mandate. To tell the media that the candidates should not have to account for these statements which reflect their fundamental political beliefs, sounds totally illogical to me.In order for the public to make an informed decision regarding which candidate to choose, the public must hold candidates accountable to explain their public coenmmts regarding their fundamental political beliefs.
