that it is common for the black spaeekr to maintain a direct gaze while the listener is obliged to glance around and periodically make eye contact, whereas the reverse is more common for whites. He said this explains some tensions where black and white people feel as they are staring each other down, or nobody is connecting. I personally haven't encountered much of this, but it seemed plausible.At any rate, I agree with you about the relative openness of people in an urban setting. I often miss it.
